Business Compliance – Too Much of a Good Thing?
Too much emphasis on compliance with regulations and risk avoidance fires back and leads to “complacency and discontent at an operational level,” according to 80% of the compliance managers surveyed by European Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC) Technology company Achiever Business Solutions (ABS).
The survey has found that excessive focus on compliance issues actually creates just the opposite of the intended effect: 63% said a “no-one will notice or check” attitude was prevalent in their organization while another 10% admitted they operated with a “we’ll wait until we get caught” approach.
78% said such negative attitudes towards compliance and risk avoidance might have negative repercussions for their business organizations in the years ahead.
Solution?
86% proposed a “enterprise-wide GRC systems run from a central GRC department.”
